Increase Your Website SEO: Link-Building 101
Not exactly the most tech savvy when it comes to SEO? Don’t worry! You don’t have to be a tech genius to boost your website’s SEO. One of the quickest and easiest ways to boost your website’s search engine ranking is through link-building.
There are three different types of links that you want incorporat throughout your website to boost your website’s SEO. Let’s break them down.
Internal Links are links from one page of your website to another page of your website. They should be distributed across your various websites pages, and they should also appear multiple times across each page. (E.g., you should have several different links on your homepage to other pages of your site).
- Use powerful and captivating CTAs (Calls to Action) to invite site visitors to click on your link.
- Examples include: Learn More, Get Started, Buy Now, Visit the Shop, I’m Ready, Count Me In, Let’s Do This. Here’s a list of helpful examples.
- Having multiple links across different pages that lead to the same page (e.g., your online shop) tells search engines this is an important page on your website
External Links. Now I know this might seem counterintuitive, but yes, you want links that lead site visitors away from your website.
- External links help establish you as a credible source to both site visitors and search engines.
- Try to link to other credible sources related to your niche or field of expertise. This also helps search engines better understand what your website is about and your offerings.
- Sharing a statistic? Include a link to the source for the information.
- If you have any professional photos on your website, link to the photographer’s website.
- Was your work featured on someone else’s blog or website? Link. To. It.
- Have specific products you love to use for your biz? Give them a shout out and link to where they can be purchased. For example, this is my favorite planner.
- And of course, link to your socials.
Backlinks are a little trickier – but are especially great for boosting SEO. Backlinks are links from other website’s that lead visitors to your website.
- Pinterest is one of the best ways you can build backlinks. Have pins that lead from pinterest to your website (and/or blog).
- Link to your website from your social media pages
- If you collaborate with another professional (say you provide them with a service and they give you a shout out for helping) ask them to link to your website as a thank
